The Crown News

March 2026

The warmer weather is slowly returning and so are the lighter evenings this can only mean good news for our pub!

Christmas was kind to us and for that we are very grateful.  It is concerning, especially for us as publicans, that so many pubs are struggling and many giving up and closing their doors permanently.  The government has done little to help the hospitality trade so we have decided to keep our heads down and plough on the best we can and we will endeavour to keep your village pub going.

We are waiting to hear from Buckinghamshire Council regarding the returfing of the front grass area so that hopefully we may be able to use this again but progress is slow.

March sees us launching our new snack menu.  We were contacted in January by a lovely lady whose grandmother used to be the Cook at The Crown in the 1930s.  Her signature dish was Welsh Rarebit apparently cooking them to exhaustion!  So as a nod to the past our new snack menu is called “Something on Toast”!

With Mother’s Day fast approaching we have a couple of tables left so please do get in touch soon to avoid disappointment.  We are celebrating Easter weekend with 2Tone returning on Saturday 4th April and the annual Dog Show in conjunction with Chesvale Dog Training Club on Monday 6th April.  We have chosen Appledown Rescue and Rehoming Kennels again as our charity for the day.  Their appreciation and gratefulness for all our efforts was heartwarming.  They aren’t a big charity that gets government support but they save and rehome so many dogs who probably haven’t had the best start in life.  Easter Sunday bookings have already started coming in so again, if you require a table please book soon.

Sunday 24th May sees our Tribute Day return with Alvin as Elvis, Niqi as Tina Turner, Lee as Robbie Williams and Steve as George Michael.  This Sunday in past years has been such fun we just had to do it again.  Still not sure some of the men have quite recovered from Niqi last year!!!  This is a free event and we will be running an outside bar and bbq from 3pm.

An advanced date for your diaries is the Ley Hill Music and Beer Festival running August bank holiday weekend Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th.  Eight bands will play over the weekend starting from 1pm.  We hope you will be able to join us!

Our street food business, Crown About Town is getting off the ground and we are already working with a couple of local venues who don’t have kitchens but run regular events so if you see us out about in Verity our VW campervan give us a toot!  If you have an event you would like us to attend please do not hesitate to get in touch.

May we take this opportunity to thank our Crown staff and Daniel Hemsley Estates for their ongoing support.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
